Galleria Sciarra is a painted inner courtyard of a family palace. The palazzo itself was built in the 15th century, but the gallery only appeared in it in the 19th century, when the struggle for unification ended in Italy and peace prevailed.
At that time, one of the heirs – Maffeo Sciarra – decides to expand the palace grounds. And he does it with the grace and grandeur so characteristic of Italians. The palazzo gains a luxurious gallery with a glass roof and paintings on the walls. For this painstaking work, Maffeo hires the best masters - the architect Giulio de Angelis and the painter Giuseppe Cellini.

As subjects for the gallery paintings, Cellini decided to depict scenes from the lives of ideal women. Ideal, meaning those who combine the most important feminine qualities: modesty, devotion, and justice. And he was inspired to do this by the women he loved most – his mother and wife.
The ladies in the frescoes are dressed in the most fashionable outfits of those times, so it is not surprising that a clothing store later opened here. And a few years later, the editorial office of a well-known magazine moved here.

Finding Galleria Sciarra is quite easy, it is located just steps away from the Trevi Fountain. To get a better look at the paintings on the walls, it is better to go during the day and in good weather, because the only lighting here is sunlight streaming through the glass roof.
