Near Vienna City Hall lies a magnificent park. The trees in it are the same age as the administration building itself: they began to be planted in 1872, and the park was officially opened a year later. Since then, it has been one of the most beautiful garden ensembles in Vienna. It is entirely designed in the English style, and its design was created by Rudolf Siebeck, who also created the City Park.
In summer, Rathaus Park is immersed in lush greenery and fragrant with the scents of flowers. There are many sculptures here dedicated to outstanding figures, such as Niklas Salm, who took part in the defense of the Austrian capital from Turkish sieges, Karl Seitz, the mayor of Vienna who became one of the country's most popular politicians, as well as Duke Leopold VI the Glorious, thanks to whom Vienna became one of the largest cultural centers of Europe.
Walking through the park, you can always rest on one of the benches with a beautiful view of the fountain. There are so many benches here that they literally merge into a single line along the numerous alleys.
In winter, especially during the Christmas holidays, Rathaus Park turns into a real fairy tale. The trees are decorated with colorful garlands, the city hall shines like a fairy-tale castle, and in the middle of the broad alley in the center of the park festive stalls are set up with souvenirs, Christmas tree ornaments, as well as all kinds of sweets and hot mulled wine.
