Vorres Museum, located in the nearest suburb of Athens, has 6000 exhibits divided into two large collections.
One of them consists of works of Greek art from the second half of the 20th century, mainly paintings, sculptures, and installations. Here you can see the national interpretation of global trends and movements in art.
The second part of the museum consists of three separate buildings — two traditional peasant houses and a former wine press — here you will find works of folk art and everyday household items. This exhibition brings together icons, carpets, furniture, ceramics from different regions of Greece, as well as paintings on historical themes. In the warm, homelike atmosphere, you can learn how people lived several centuries ago and see with your own eyes what surrounded them.
Together, the two sections of the museum cover no less than 2500 years of history and provide an opportunity to get acquainted with the spirit and style of Greek art. This collection was founded in 1983 on the basis of a collection donated to the state by the Vorres family.
