Amsterdam's River Terminal is housed in a building called Havengebouw built in 1960. This fourteen-story building on the IJ River accommodates both small vessels and large cruise liners. Not far from it is Amsterdam Central Station as well, from where you can get to almost any corner of the country.
Amsterdam's River Terminal is best known for housing the largest bicycle parking facility in the world. Residents ride here on their two-wheeled vehicles, for example from Central Station, safely leave them in the River Terminal building, and head off to work in the suburbs. From here you can take a ferry to any district of the city, either on a tour or on your own. The river tram departs every 15 minutes during the day and every half hour in the evening.
By the way, there is a wonderful view of Amsterdam from the top of the building.
