In the heart of the marginal and, it must be admitted, usually avoided by tourists Raval district stands the Church of Sant Pau del Camp - one of the city's oldest Romanesque sanctuaries.
It was built on the site of a Benedictine monastery, which existed here for nearly 8 centuries! When in the XII century it, in the literal sense of the word, fell under enemy oppression, Sant Pau del Camp was built.
Having survived, like the monastery, for more than 8 centuries, the church building is considered one of the best-preserved examples of that time. Nowadays the church, despite its age, still serves parishioners every day except Sunday.
The true adornment of this sanctuary is the garden in which Sant Pau del Camp is literally immersed. The church itself has a single nave, and its real pride is a small covered gallery dating from the XII century.
