Let’s start with the fact that the “ZWACK” company is a popular Hungarian producer of liqueurs, balms, bitters, and other alcoholic beverages, the main one being the “Unicum” liqueur. Its recipe was developed more than 220 years ago (in 1790). It is a strong 42-degree medicinal herbal tincture that is added to tea or coffee, and is also drunk neat as an aperitif. Although the full recipe of “Unicum” is kept secret, it is known that it is made from a blend of more than 40 different types of carefully selected medicinal herbs and spices. However, you will surely be told about this at the museum itself. By the way, these are exactly the liqueurs that tourists usually bring back from Hungary as gifts.
During the tour, museum visitors are shown a 20-minute film about the history of six generations of the Zwack family and about how the signature drink “Unicum” was created. Here you can also see a collection of miniature bottles of various alcoholic beverages. It is considered the richest in Europe, as it numbers 17000 items!
At the end of the tour, the most interesting part awaits visitors – a tasting of drinks by “ZWACK”. There is no need to pay separately for it, everything is included in the price of the entrance ticket.
