The flower market on Île de la Cité has existed for more than 200 years. Roses, tulips, gladioluses, irises, divine orchids... What flowers can’t be found here! And not only cut flowers, but also potted plants. Seeds and all kinds of garden supplies are also sold here. And just imagine the aromas that fill the air here. By the way, one of the well-known perfume houses released a fragrance not long ago called “Marché aux Fleurs” (“Flower Market”).
Long ago, this bazaar was simply a place where flower sellers stood with large baskets, but now it is home to a long covered pavilion with a glass roof. It is open daily from 8 in the morning until 7:30 in the evening. And on weekends it also turns into a bird market. Nightingales, turtle doves, canaries, parrots, and many other birds are brought here.
In the run-up to New Year, the flower market also turns into a Christmas market. Here you can buy souvenirs that cannot be found anywhere else in the city. In short, this place is worth a visit at any time of year. Especially since its location is exceptionally convenient — quite close to Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral.
