At the end of the 1960s, Czech film director Ivan Steiger needed toys as props for filming a movie. At first, he began looking for suitable items among friends, then his circle of contacts expanded noticeably, and the search itself gradually turned into collecting.
After leaving for neighboring Germany for a while, Steiger continued collecting toys, traveling all over the country. Thus, a whole heap of various items accumulated in his home, and the local authorities even offered to allocate a separate venue for this toy exhibition.
But the patriotic Steiger wanted to open a museum in his hometown - Prague. His dream came true only 20 years later, when the Toy Museum finally appeared in Prague Castle. Today this collection is not just a gathering of objects, but the second-largest toy exhibition in the world!
In total, more than 5000 exhibits are displayed here, and some of them are more than 2000 years old. The museum consists of 11 exhibition halls and is divided into two floors, one of which is entirely devoted to a Barbie doll exhibition. Boys, and men too, will surely find the collections of cars, trains, steamships, locomotives, and tin soldiers interesting. The enormous collection of teddy bears is also very popular.
Children are absolutely delighted by what they see in the Prague Toy Museum, so needless to say, the museum is also popular with adults who want to please their little ones.
