Usually monuments are erected to famous people or fictional characters, but what if a person really existed, did a lot of good for his people, yet no one remembers his name?
A similar situation happened in Hungary: there once lived a hermit monk who meticulously recorded all the significant events of his time, was later appointed as the king's notary, but left almost no information about himself (or it was simply erased by history). But Hungarians are a grateful people, so they erected a monument to this monk, but instead of a name they simply wrote “Anonymous.”
The author of the sculpture is Miklos Ligeti. He depicted the monk sitting on a bench with a manuscript in one hand and a quill in the other. On his head is a large hood that hides his face.
Overall, the sculpture turned out mysterious and even a little gloomy, but tourists are not bothered by this in the least. On the contrary, many try to sit on his lap or photograph the face hidden under the hood. But what attracts tourists most is Anonymous's quill. There is a belief that by touching it, you can instantly become a genius. True, no such cases have been recorded so far, so most people believe instead in a wish coming true or, at the very least, good luck in the humanities.
The monument to Anonymous is located in Varoshliget Park, in and around which there are so many interesting things that we have even created a separate walking route through this area.
