The famous Štorch House, also known as the “house of four styles,” is located on Old Town Square, next to the equally famous “House of the White Unicorn”.
This building at number 16 is primarily known for its organic eclecticism of architectural styles. The basement of Štorch House is done in the Romanesque style, the bay window slightly protruding from the facade is Gothic, the upper part of the building with the pediment is attributed to the Baroque style, and the frescoes, the main one being the huge Saint Wenceslas depicted riding a horse, are done in the Renaissance style. Largely thanks to this very large, eye-catching fresco, the building comes into tourists’ view.
Štorch House was built at the turn of the 14th-15th centuries and since then has survived many fires and destruction caused by natural elements. However, cherished by the municipality and townspeople, the “house of four styles” has survived to the present day almost entirely intact, not counting, of course, its own architectural metamorphoses.
