The Ulrico Hoepli Planetarium is located in the northeast of Milan, not far from Porta Venezia. It got its name thanks to the philanthropist Hoepli, who in the first half of the 20th century headed a major publishing house.
The planetarium was built in 1930 and became one of the first on the territory of Italy. In the very first year of its existence, 109 scientific conferences were held within its walls.
Even today, the Ulrico Hoepli Planetarium is considered the largest Italian institution of its kind - about 100 thousand guests visit it each year alone. Through simple mathematical calculations, one can assume that since its creation, about 8 million visitors have been to this planetarium!
The influx of guests is greatly helped by the fact that in 1990 the starry sky projection system came to be controlled by a computer, which displays all galaxies and constellations in the finest detail on the 20-meter dome. Under such a "sky," up to 320 people can be accommodated at the same time.
However, computer technology and multimedia systems are not the only trump card of the planetarium staff. Much more, they prefer to conduct regular tours, which are no less interesting and informative.
