It's hard even to say what Prague has more of – sights or the legends associated with them. Literally every corner of this medieval city can tell not one or two, but many fascinating stories.
The same is true of the knight statue located on the corner of the town hall on Mariánské Square. There are several versions regarding its appearance; we will tell you only one of them, the one most often mentioned.
They say that once a certain knight belonged to the Order of the Templars and either fell in love with a woman from high society or committed some other grave sin by the standards and morals of those times, but he was sentenced to death by beheading. However, the proud and honest knight did not admit his guilt even before the execution and died angry with God.
It is said that ever since then, in different corners of Prague, but especially often around Liliová Street, where the headquarters of the Order of the Templars was located, people began seeing the ghost of a knight on horseback holding his head in his right hand.
According to the legend, only a brave young man who is not afraid of the ghost, takes the frenzied horse by the bridle, and pierces the rider with a sword can grant eternal rest to the poor knight. Whether such a man was ever found, history does not say.
