Berri Meregalli House, or Berri Meregalli Palace, as locals often call it, is a true blend of architectural styles. Specialists, however, consider this house a typical grotesque structure with many exaggerated features of the post-Gothic style. Evidence of this can be seen in the gargoyles that abundantly adorn the facade of this unusual house.
Some connoisseurs attribute this building rather to the Baroque style, pointing to the many lavish frescoes and bas-reliefs crowning the facade of the house. Moreover, by looking closely at the front of the building, observant tourists will notice images of horse heads and other picturesque extravagances. Monumental porticos made of brownish marble here are complemented by balconies on which small trees and green shrubs grow.
The famous Italian architect Giuseppe Sommaruga was convinced that Berri Meregalli House was nothing more than a gallery of horrors, emphasizing the atrociously bad taste of its creator. In any case, this building has always sparked and will continue to spark a great deal of gossip and speculation, and therefore it captivates the keen interest of every curious visitor to Milan.
