Located in the Jewish Quarter, the street with the elegant name Pařížská is now the main fashion avenue not only of Prague, but of the whole Czech Republic. Here you will find boutiques of such luxury brands as Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, Armani, Hermes, D&G and many others. According to some rankings, Pařížská is even among the most expensive streets in the world!
Today, in addition to numerous boutiques, on Pařížská you can find a whole array of refined cafes and a string of Art Nouveau buildings. However, it was not always like this here. Just two centuries ago, Pařížská Street, not yet called that at the time, was, in the literal sense, Prague's cesspit. It was constantly flooded, and fires were not uncommon here either. As a result, the sewer and water pipes on this street were damaged, which led to numerous illnesses among local residents.
To change such an unfavorable situation, the city authorities carried out enormous work in which architects, surveyors, pipefitters and other city sanitation workers took part. The street changed noticeably, however, its new 'tasteless' appearance irritated Prague residents for a long time. And only in the 20th century did this street finally become what we know it as today – an elegant corner of Paris in Prague.
