Istanbul has always been a cosmopolitan city, and even during the years of Muslim rule, quite a large number of Christians lived here. Therefore it is not surprising that even today you can often come across an Orthodox or Catholic church here. And it is quite curious that not one, but two churches of the Holy Trinity were built in the city at once. One of them is located in the Asian part of Istanbul - in the Kadikoy district, while the other is in the center of the European part - in the Beyoglu district, not far from Taksim Square.
The Greek Church of the Holy Trinity in the European part became widely known. It is the true heart of Orthodoxy in this huge city, one of the largest churches in Istanbul. Earlier, on the site where the stone building now stands, there was a wooden Greek church and a Greek cemetery.
When you come here, be sure to pay attention to the grand dome with frescoes and the icons, many of which have survived since Byzantine times!
