It is one of the oldest zoos in Europe, founded back in 1911. It was designed by Carl Hagenbeck, who had previously built the zoo in Hamburg. The main feature of its enclosures is the absence of bars (the animals are separated by moats or kept at a safe distance), spacious living areas, and complete freedom for some species of birds. So, for example, a peacock may be strutting right next to you.
The zoo covers about 12 hectares. More than 200 species of mammals, birds, and reptiles are comfortably housed here. In total, there are about 1300 animals. Here you can see lions and tigers, pet giraffes, laugh at the macaques, watch hippos and kangaroos, but it is better not to mess around with the crocodiles. Elephants and buffalo inspire such awe and respect that getting too close to them feels a bit intimidating. Some animals seem truly exotic, for example, the emperor tamarin.

By the way, the zoo openly states that it is ready to accept any donations, as well as new animals. So if you happened to bring a panda or an olinguito from home, they will take care of them here. For children, a small tram runs around the park, and adults can relax on the benches or, on the contrary, rent a bicycle.
