Holidays and non-working days:

— 1 January — New Year's Day and the Day of the Restoration of the Independent Czech State

— Easter

— 1 May — Labour Day

— 8 May — Victory Day

— 5 July — Saints Cyril and Methodius Day

— 6 July — Jan Hus Execution Day

— 28 September — Czech Statehood Day

— 28 October — Day of the Establishment of the Independent Czechoslovak Republic

— 17 November — Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day

— 24 December — Christmas Eve

— 25 December — Christmas Day

— 26 December — Saint Stephen's Day.

These are not public holidays, but they are celebrated in Prague:

— 6 January — Epiphany Day or the "Three Kings' Feast." On this day, children go from house to house, sing carols, and wait for gifts, which then go to charity.

— In January-February — Masopust, an equivalent of Maslenitsa. The last week before Lent is marked by carnival processions and special "fat" lunches.

— On Walpurgis Night (Pálení čarodějnic), from 30 April to 1 May, people all over the Czech Republic dance in circles and burn effigies symbolizing witches on bonfires.

— The Czech Beer Festival (Český pivní festival) takes place in Prague in the second half of May: in a huge tent for 10 thousand people, you can have a great time and try several dozen varieties of beer.
