Opposite the Church of Nikola Nadein stands the Yaroslavl State Art Museum. It is located on the grounds of the former Governor's House, which was built at the beginning of the 19th century.
All Russian emperors, starting with Alexander I, once visited this historic building. In addition, it was the official residence of 17 Yaroslavl governors.
By the way, quite recently the beginning of a secret passage was discovered, running underground from the building's main entrance to the grotto gazebo on the lower embankment. Whether anyone managed to use it and under what circumstances, we suggest you find out on the spot.
The art museum houses more than 70 thousand exhibits - not only paintings and graphics, but also works of decorative and applied art, numerous sculptures, and valuable coins. Works by outstanding artists are also displayed here - Repin, Levitsky, Bryullov, and other masters of painting. The museum often hosts temporary exhibitions dedicated to world-renowned artists, for example, Salvador Dali.
