During the Great Patriotic War, Belarus was under German occupation for more than three years. The Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War is dedicated to this tragic and heroic period in the country's history, and it opened its doors to visitors in July 2014.
In fact, the museum's history began in 1942, when it was decided to collect documents and materials about the war. After the Nazis were driven out of Minsk, the museum was housed in one of the city's few surviving buildings - the House of Trade Unions. The exhibitions were opened to the public in October 1944.
Over its many years of operation, the museum has managed to collect a huge number of items related to the war. These include banners, clothing, household utensils, posters, paintings, and wartime journalism. The exhibition of military equipment at the museum opened in 1977.
Construction of the museum's new building began in 2010. It is an entire monumental complex that forms a single whole with the «Minsk - Hero City» stele, located on Pobediteley Avenue.
Each stage of the war has its own separate pavilion here: there are ten in total, and they occupy an area of 15 thousand square meters. You will be able to take a journey through time across all the halls, arranged in chronological order. Unique installations, modern technical equipment, and interactive effects leave an indelible impression.
