The museum of foreign art in Riga, known as "Riga Bourse," introduces visitors to a magnificent collection of Western European, Oriental, and Ancient Egyptian art, spanning from the fifth millennium BC to the present day.
The largest Latvian museum of its kind is located in the famous building of the Riga Bourse, which adorns Dome Square. The collection moved here in 1920, and has occupied it ever since, except during periods of restoration of the historic building.
The Art Museum "Riga Bourse" is divided into several thematic sections, whose exhibitions are carefully organized. The pride of the museum's collection is 17th-century Northern European painting, which can be seen in the picture gallery.
The Western Gallery will introduce you to exquisite examples from the collection of 18th-20th century Western European porcelain, including valuable Meissen porcelain. The decor of these halls is done in German style with luxurious wallpaper, clocks, furniture, parquet flooring, and gilded chandeliers.
Next to the Western Gallery is the Silver Cabinet, where a small selection of silver items is kept. In the spacious and bright Eastern Galleries you will see art objects from Japan, China, and other Asian countries, mainly from the 19th century.
