The first railroad station in Jaffa appeared back in 1891, when Jaffa was a separate city. At first there was simply a line here for delivering cargo from Jaffa Port to the city; a little later the station building was erected and regular service to Jerusalem and other cities was established.
The country's first concrete products factory was located on the station grounds, and it closed in 1938. In 1948, the Jaffa railroad station itself was also closed; more precisely, it was moved to Tel Aviv. The station building and the structures adjacent to it were abandoned until the early 2000s.
After the complete reconstruction of all 22 buildings across 20 hectares, a wonderful place for leisure and shopping opened here, called HaTachana. This is an absolutely unique shopping and entertainment center where modern boutiques, shops, cafes, restaurants, and art galleries operate in the beautifully preserved atmosphere of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Cozy cafes located in the premises of the former factory set out their tables under ancient trees. Fashionable designer clothing and charming souvenirs are sold in the utility rooms of the railroad station. On Fridays, a farmers' market with the freshest vegetables and fruits operates here.
