The exterior of the Museum of Fine Arts building in Budapest matches its collection - a unity of beauty and history reigns here. The museum is more than a hundred years old, and to this day it remains the largest collection of foreign fine art in Hungary. The building was designed at the beginning of the 20th century by architects Albert Schickedanz and Fülöp Herzog, who gave it a Neoclassical style.
By visiting the museum's galleries, you will be able to see a magnificent collection of paintings and sculptures from various historical eras. There are even departments devoted to Ancient Egypt and classical antiquity.
Particularly interesting are the exhibitions displaying European painting of the 13th-18th centuries. There are more than three thousand canvases here, created by great artists: Maso di Banco, Gentile Bellini, Raphael, Correggio, Dürer, El Greco, Velázquez, and many other outstanding masters. The sketches and drawings that can be seen in the museum also include works by Leonardo da Vinci and Rembrandt.
The 19th and 20th centuries are represented by magnificent paintings by Monet, Pissarro, and Renoir. In addition, the museum has an excellent collection of sculptures by Rodin and Meunier.
