This luxurious park stretches right behind Sforza Castle. There used to be a drill ground on its site, but in 1893 it was completely replaced by shady alleys and picturesque lawns.
Besides lush greenery, fountains, and picnic-friendly lawns, Parco Sempione also has several attractions. For example, the Palace of Art (Palazzo dell'Arte), where design shows are held, as well as all kinds of exhibitions on architecture, fashion, and photography.
The famous Arch of Peace is also located here, which Napoleon decided to build in honor of his triumph in Milan. The majestic monument is entirely decorated with bas-reliefs depicting battle scenes involving Bonaparte.
In addition, the park has a city aquarium that you can visit completely free of charge. It features all kinds of inhabitants of the Mediterranean. A hydrobiology station is located nearby.
Another attraction of Parco Sempione is the old stadium called Arena Civica. It was built in 1807 specifically to host sporting competitions.
And to take a couple of great panoramic shots, it is worth going up the Branca Tower, which reopened after restoration in 2002. It now serves as an excellent observation deck. Residents of the city have even nicknamed it Milan's "Eiffel Tower." Its height is just over one hundred meters, and you can reach the top by elevator.
