The Nikolo-Shartomsky Monastery in the village of Vvedenye, Shuysky District, is located in an exceptionally picturesque place, beside a river, with green fields stretching all around. The emergence of this holy monastery is connected with the legend of the appearance in this place of the icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
The exact date of the monastery's foundation has been lost; it is only known that it is very ancient. The very first documentary mention of it dates back to 1425. The monastery was a highly revered and respected place. At various times, princes and tsars came here, donating money, land, and their favor.
The architectural ensemble of the monastery that we see today was formed mainly in the 17th century, after fires and raids by Poles and Lithuanians that devastated these lands. After these tragic events, everything was built in stone, and many structures have survived to this day. The most striking and impressive buildings are St. Nicholas Cathedral Church, the Kazan Church, and the Gate Church of the Transfiguration.
Nowadays, several dozen monks live in the restored Nikolo-Shartomsky Monastery, providing for themselves through agriculture - they have their own greenhouses, an apple orchard, and vineyards. In addition, educational and charitable activities are carried out here on a regular basis.
