Banny Bridge over the Uvod River has served the residents of Ivanovo for more than 60 years: by crossing it, you can get from the Leninsky District to the Oktyabrsky District of the city. The bridge is called Banny because public bathhouses used to be located next to it.
This suspension pedestrian bridge was built here in 1953 based on the design by Arkady Tolstopyatov. This architect, who never received a diploma of professional education, did a great deal for Ivanovo and the surrounding cities. Bridges, residential buildings, public buildings and clubs, monuments and memorials were built to his designs. Banny Bridge was one of his first works after his release from prison, where he spent 5 years on a false charge.
In 2008, the bridge's cables weakened, and because of its unsafe condition it was closed for reconstruction. During the repairs, the side staircases were removed from both sides of the bridge, the cables and wooden decking were replaced, and round lanterns were installed on the supports. In 2013, bright illumination was added to Banny Bridge, which beautifully lights the bridge in the evenings and plays with multicolored reflections on the waters of the Uvod.
