The Church of All Saints, small in size and not very noticeable, is actually one of the key buildings of the Troitsky Danilov Monastery in Pereslavl-Zalessky.
The monastery was founded in 1508 by St. Daniel, who was considered the spiritual mentor of Vasily III and later became the godfather of Ivan IV the Terrible. At that time there was only one wooden church in the monastery, dedicated to All Saints, and the monastery itself was also called the All Saints Monastery.
Later, after the consecration of the newly built cathedral in honor of the Holy Trinity in 1532, the monastery was renamed Troitsky. Thereafter the cloister enjoyed substantial financial support from the powerful of this world. However, after the death of Ivan the Terrible, the Time of Troubles arrived, along with wars, famine, and other hardships. At the beginning of the 17th century, the monastery was practically bankrupt, having lost many lands and peasants.
Only several decades later did the monastery begin to revive; at that same time, in 1687, the Church of All Saints, which had been destroyed by then, was rebuilt. It was erected by master builders from Kostroma. The church is a square building crowned by a single dome set on a high drum surrounded by kokoshniks.
Nowadays the church looks very cozy and charming. It is especially pleasant to visit in spring or summer, when everything around it is blooming and green: the atmosphere is very peaceful, just as it should be in a monastery.
