The gate church of Peter and Paul in Pereslavl-Zalessky is one of the two surviving church structures of the Svyato-Nikolsky Monastery that have survived to the present day.
The money for the construction of the church was donated by Moscow merchant P.R. Holshchevikov. Construction was completed by 1748. The architectural style of the church has distinctly pronounced Baroque features, which was considered the design standard of those times. Some Baroque elements have now been lost, especially the decorative ornaments, whose very existence is only assumed by researchers.
Visually, the church appears to be stretched upward, thanks to the tall and slender dome with a small gilded cupola mounted on a narrow drum. The base of the building is a quadrangle surrounded by galleries, above which is a domed roof with window openings - lucarnes. The church is painted a pastel yellow color, harmoniously combined with the emerald-green dome.
After the restoration and reconstruction work carried out in the 1990s, the Church of Peter and Paul looks quite harmonious in the architectural ensemble of the monastery, adorning the entrance to the ancient cloister.
