Residents of Pereslavl-Zalessky can rightfully be proud of their distinguished fellow countryman - Alexander Nevsky, Prince of Novgorod, Kiev, and Vladimir, a great Russian military commander. Such historical events as the Battle on Lake Peipus and the Battle of the Neva are associated with his name, and in general the entire struggle against the knights of the Livonian Order in the 13th century.
In 2012, the Alexander Nevsky Museum was opened in Pereslavl-Zalessky. Surprisingly, this is the first museum in Russia dedicated to such a legendary figure, one of the key personalities in the history of all Ancient Rus.
The museum's collection is divided into several thematic exhibitions connected with different stages of Alexander Nevsky's life and work. Particularly interesting is the installation-model of the ancient city of Pereslavl, which was under the prince's rule in 1240-1263. Also here, life-size figures of a Russian warrior, a Teutonic knight, and a Tatar-Mongol stand, made quite realistically. And also a figure of Alexander Nevsky himself in armor.
The museum houses many valuable archaeological finds, weapons, uniforms, orders, and medals. A separate exhibition is dedicated to icons depicting Alexander Nevsky.
