In 2006, an unusual cultural venue opened in Gelendzhik - the “Belaya Loshad” gallery. It was founded by the charming and vibrant Nina Nikiforova, whose works are made from what we throw into the trash every day, and what irresponsible citizens even leave right on the streets. Plastic bottles, plastic bags, beer cans - these are the creative materials Nina uses.
With the help of a hair dryer, glue, paints, and leftover fabrics, she creates original objects from these items. The use of unusual materials did not begin because of a lack of money for canvases and paints at all: the artist's creative method is based on ideas of ecology and environmental conservation. Instead of throwing away plastic, which takes 400 years to decompose, she turns it into a painting, panel, or sculpture that pleases the eye.
The artist, who also teaches her art to children, became the founder of the international children's competition “Zherebenok.” For example, in 2014, contestants collected plastic bottle caps from the streets, which birds mistake for food, swallow, and die from. The caps were used to make cute wizard hedgehogs that walk the earth and save birds by cleaning up plastic trash.
Nina's works and the children's competition pieces from five years of “Zherebenok” can be seen at the contemporary art gallery “Belaya Loshad.”
