The White Hat is a symbol of the city of Anapa, and not just because the words rhyme in Russian. Many vacationers and local residents use this comfortable headwear to protect themselves from the scorching rays of the summer sun.
The design for the White Hat monument was developed by architect Sergey Romakhin, and the interesting idea was brought to life by sculptor Vasily Polyakov. In September 2007, the monument was unveiled to the public and immediately became a local landmark. It is located in a lively spot - on the central alley of 30-letiya Pobedy Park. Before long, a tradition arose on its own of greeting the stone hat: as they pass by, park visitors tip their own.
The White Hat monument is, in fact, a white marble hat weighing two centners and measuring almost one and a half meters in diameter. The hat is "placed" on a large boulder bearing the inscription "That Very White Hat." Around the monument there is a picturesque flower bed with flowers and other greenery.
The monument is extremely popular, since everyone wants to take home a photo from the resort with the White Hat in the background, so you often have to wait several minutes in line to get close to the famous hat and take a couple of memorable shots.
