Sunny Anapa is not just a resort on the Black Sea coast. The city, with centuries of history behind it, has seen a lot, and exactly what - you can learn at the Anapa Local History Museum.
The museum building is the former resort gymnasium of the Shchetnev teachers, built in 1909. The exhibitions are filled with a wide variety of materials. You will discover a great deal that is new and previously unknown about the history of Anapa in different eras, starting from the founding of the colony by Italian merchants in the 15th century and ending with the present day. The Russo-Turkish wars, the Great Patriotic War - all these historical events are excellently presented in the museum.
The exhibition dedicated to winemaking is particularly interesting. The Anapa region has traditionally been rich in vineyards, and thanks to the mild climate and the skill of the winemakers, the local wine is well known throughout Russia.
Separate exhibitions tell about the nature of the region, its flora and fauna, as well as the ethnography of the region. One of the most recently opened exhibitions, "Street of Anapa," appeared here in 2013. By visiting it, you will see the city as it was in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. You will walk past shop windows - a textile store, a bookstore, a haberdashery shop; examine old photographs and documents, as well as a charming selection of vintage Soviet goods.
