The “Khors” Gallery is absolutely unique: it is not just formal or avant-garde exhibition halls with paintings and sculptures, it is a world of art and history with a life of its own.
The gallery was opened in 1995 by Moscow artist Mikhail Selishchev, who specializes in contemporary artistic enamel. Here you will be able to see both Mikhail's works - enamel panels and paintings, and his workspace. On Sundays, the studio hosts master classes on enamel-making techniques, where you will learn the history of this art, learn to work with enamel, and take home a masterpiece created with your own hands as a keepsake.
The “Khors” Art Gallery is housed in an old wooden merchant house from the late 19th century, right by the walls of the Rostov Kremlin. After the war, the house was turned over to communal ownership: until the 1990s, eight tenant families lived in it. Because of its dilapidated condition, the house was going to be demolished, but in 1992 it was renovated, and an exhibition hall and mini-museum were opened on the second floor.
Residents of Rostov brought old things here, which soon formed an entire collection of 19th-century household items: spinning wheels, chests, dishes and textiles, old photographs, and personal belongings. This is how “Svetelka” appeared in the gallery - a small museum of Rostov's history.
The gallery also has a cozy home-style hotel run by Mikhail's wife. Staying with this creative couple, you can stroll through the front garden with figures of Russia's epic heroes and enjoy views of the kremlin.
