A monument to one of the most important human senses—taste—was installed in Nizhny Novgorod in 2003. This structure looks extremely unusual: on a pedestal in the shape of a cylinder stands a giant spoon with a green olive.
The townspeople should thank the Nizhegorodsky Oil and Fat Plant for such a monument, as it knows a thing or two about consumers' tastes and produces margarine and mayonnaise. The monument was named “Lozhka Vkusa.” It is installed on the grounds of NNGU, in the courtyard of the Philology Faculty.
In addition to the pedestal with the huge spoon, smaller cylindrical pedestals are arranged in a circle, studded with various kitchen utensils: forks, ladles, skimmers, and serving spoons. The height of the monument is three meters, and its weight is three tons.
This “masterpiece” was created during the Nizhny Novgorod Fair, and at that time everyone who came to the event with their own spoon received a certificate stating that this person had taken part in the construction of the monument. Therefore, “Lozhka Vkusa” can safely be considered a work of folk art.
