The Monument to the Pyatak adorns Kominterna Street in Nizhny Novgorod. This is not the first site in Russia dedicated to the five-kopeck coin. There is something similar in Moscow and Korolyov, but there the coin from the Soviet period is depicted. Nizhny Novgorod residents, however, received a more antique pyatak in 2007, styled after the times of Nicholas II.
The Monument to the Pyatak is not easy to spot, because it is built into the paving stones of the square, as if a giant coin were lying right on the ground. So in your search, use house numbers 166 and 168 as landmarks.
The pyatak is made of cast iron, has a diameter of more than a meter, and is coated with a special compound that protects it from damage and vandalism. And there can be many threats, because this kind of city landmark often gives rise to traditions and superstitions. It is believed that if you rub the coin with your foot, you will have success in financial matters; if you make a wish at this spot, it will certainly come true; if you arrange a date here, it will definitely become romantic and pleasant.
Since the memorial sign is located in the Sormovo district, local residents nicknamed it the “Sormovo Pyatachok”.
