The Memorial-Historical Museum is dedicated to the history of the city of Tsaritsyn in the first half of the 20th century. In addition to the famous Battle of Stalingrad of 1942, there were other historical battles in the city. For example, in 1918 Tsaritsyn repelled three assaults by the White Army, but in 1919 it was captured by the troops of General Denikin.
You can learn about these and many other military events from the exhibitions of the Volgograd Memorial-Historical Museum. In five halls, you can view collections of weaponry from the beginning of the last century, including a real horse-drawn machine-gun cart, standards of various troops, and even a life-size model of an armored train. In addition to edged and firearms, there are also communication devices from the 1920s, personal correspondence, and belongings of Stalin, Budyonny, and Voroshilov. Unique documents and photographs tell about the lives of the leaders of the White Movement. A large collection dedicated to the First World War reflects its influence on the history of Russia and the world.
A separate collection tells about the everyday and cultural features of Tsaritsyn at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. That is why it will be interesting here not only for those fascinated by the topic of war, but also for those curious about the history of the city.
Even the museum building itself is an architectural monument. This old mansion once belonged to the ancient family of wealthy merchants, the Repnikovs. The exact construction date is unknown, but scholars suggest that this house was built in the 1880s. The red mansion is crowned by two pointed towers, behind which a decorative pediment can be seen, and the walls are richly decorated with ornamental elements.
