The historic district of Innsbruck, the Old Town, is known worldwide for its abundance of attractions and historic monuments. The greatest number of them are located on Herzog-Friedrich Street. This is where tourists usually flock to admire the architectural landmarks and various establishments for every taste and interest. There are many souvenir shops here selling authentic Tyrolean handicrafts.
Herzog-Friedrich Street is completely pedestrian, so you can stroll along it calmly without the bustle and noise of cars. Almost every building here has its own unique architecture and history.
In the very center stands the City Tower, from which you can begin your tour. This structure, 56 meters high, was built in the XV century. Since then, the tower has been renovated many times, every now and then adding elements corresponding to a particular era. Directly above the tower clock there is an observation deck offering a wonderful view of old Innsbruck.
Next to the tower, you can notice the «Golden Roof» - a balcony with a roof of gilded tiles, installed for Emperor Maximilian in the XVI century so that he could watch the festivities taking place on the square.
The house that looks like a white-and-pink palace is the famous Helblinghaus, luxurious residential apartments decorated across the entire facade with lavish Baroque ornamentation.
You can spend a lot of time on the main street of the Old Town, enjoying the beautiful views. There are also excellent restaurants and cafes here, stylishly decorated and harmoniously fitting into the overall picture.
