Tyrolean bell ringing is known all over the world. More than 400 years ago, the first bell was cast in the Grassmayr family workshop. Bartlme Grassmayr probably did not imagine that his initially modest business would survive for several centuries: for more than 14 generations, the family has been engaged in bell casting, and the secret of their manufacture is kept in the strictest confidence. It is hard to find a country where the signature Grassmayr ringing has not been heard.
In Innsbruck, there is a museum where you can see live how bells are cast and follow all the stages of their production. The collection contains bells cast in different eras, using different technologies, but always of consistently high quality.
You can listen to the magical ringing right here, in the bell hall. Even without a musical ear, you will fully appreciate the crystal clarity and flawless quality of the bells. In the work of the Grassmayr workshop, thanks to the ideal combination of precise calculations and careful adherence to ancient secret technologies, bells are transformed into true masterpieces.
