For every skier, the Alps are the gold standard for a vacation. In Austria, the choice of ski resorts with a wide variety of slopes is enormous. Bad Hofgastein is located in the middle of the Gasteinertal valley. This resort is extremely friendly to amateurs and beginners, because thanks to the rolling landscape, the runs are quite long and at the same time gentle. There are not very steep slopes here and good conditions that will appeal to beginner skiers and opponents of extreme sports.
The area near Bad Hofgastein has been known since the 13th century, because healing thermal springs are located here. In the Middle Ages, the resort was a very popular vacation spot for the nobility, but later, because of various natural and social cataclysms that shook Europe, this place fell into neglect and was almost forgotten.
This continued until the beginning of the 19th century, when Ferdinand III, the Grand Duke of Salzburg, became passionate about the idea of restoring the resort, and his heirs continued his work. The laying of new roads, the construction of new buildings, and the attraction of celebrities such as Schubert, Schopenhauer, Bismarck, and others revived the former glory of Bad Hofgastein.
In the postwar period, active construction of lifts and the creation of conditions for winter sports began.
There are also many interesting sights here – Klammstein Castle, the Church of the Holy Mother of God, and St. Nicholas Church. You will be offered fascinating excursions telling about gold mining, which was practiced here as early as by the Celts, or about mysterious ancient woodcutters.
