The Old Town of Salzburg is a true treasure trove for all travelers. This is where the largest number of the city's attractions are concentrated.
In half an hour, you will be able to see medieval Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Romanticism, and Classicism: it is hard to pass by all these historic buildings from different eras. Such a combination of styles in such close proximity cannot be found anywhere else in all of Europe. By the way, since 1997 the Old Town has been entirely included by UNESCO in the list of World Cultural Heritage sites.
Walking through the Old Town, you will pass along small streets with expressive names: Jewish Lane, Golden Lane, Stone Lane, Riverside Lane, and so on. However, now this is nothing more than a tribute to history, and the character of the street does not always match its name.
The oldest street, Grain Lane (Getreidegasse), will delight you with an abundance of cozy restaurants and cafes. Among the architectural monuments, such significant structures as the Old and New Archbishops' Residences, Собор Святого Петра, and Францисканская церковь can be highlighted.
The jewel among all the buildings here is considered to be the Cathedral of Saints Rupert and Virgil, whose history dates back to the early Middle Ages. On top of that, the ever-present in Salzburg Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was baptized in this cathedral. Moreover, the house where Mozart was born is also located in the Old Town.
