For Salzburg, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is not just a famous figure, but a truly legendary one. Everywhere in the city you can encounter Mozart's legacy - his music is played in theaters and churches, and in restaurants you can often find dishes named in his honor. Salzburg is a whole little empire bearing Mozart's name.
There are also quite a few museums here that tell the story of his life and work. You can begin your acquaintance with the composer at the very beginning - at the place of his birth. The family of the musician Leopold Mozart lived in house No. 9 on Getreidegasse from 1747 to 1773. On January 29, 1756, a little boy was born here and was named Wolfgang Amadeus.
Today, Mozart's Birthplace has become a museum that houses such relics as Mozart's first childhood violin and his small clavichord. Here you can also see portraits and letters that belonged to the composer's family, as well as other interior items. The museum was opened in 1880 with the active participation of the International Mozarteum Foundation.
In the neighboring apartment there is another museum called "A Middle-Class Apartment in Salzburg in Mozart's Time," which features thematic exhibitions connected with Mozart in one way or another.
