If you notice something at Salzburg Airport gleaming with silver and blue, and with its rounded shapes resembling a spaceship from blockbuster movies, do not worry, it is not aliens arriving to take over the world. You have simply seen the famous Red Bull hangar.
The oval hangar made of glass and steel with two cylindrical towers has become an exhibition space for a collection of helicopters, airplanes, and legendary Formula 1 cars. The collection of unique machines and aircraft belongs to Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz.
Red Bull is known not only for producing energy drinks, but also for sponsoring sporting and extreme competitions and shows. Car races and air shows are held under this brand, and Mateschitz, the company’s founder, is a fan of them. His hobby resulted not only in financial support for racing teams, but also in collecting airplanes and Formula 1 cars.
You can also see Felix Baumgartner’s "flying suit" in the Hangar, a native of Salzburg and holder of dozens of world records in the most extreme pursuits, such as a jump from an altitude of 39 thousand meters while exceeding the speed of sound. Wings made of carbon fiber with the Red Bull company emblem, with which Felix has been working since 1988, helped him become the first person in the world to cross the English Channel without equipment.
Red Bull Hangar-7 has two cafes and the unique Ikarus restaurant, where the chef changes every month. Famous guest chefs gladly come here from all over the world, as the restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star.
