Medieval Park is located in the old urban district of Gamle-Oslo and is part of one themed complex together with Memorial Park and the Oslo Estate.
The park, dedicated to the city's medieval history, was opened in 2000. Here, as in Memorial Park, there are ruins of buildings from ancient Oslo. Among them are St. Mary's Church, built in 1050 and burned by the Swedes in 1523, and St. Clement's Church, founded around 1100.
Another reminder of Oslo's age is the Tenerife park pond, whose shoreline was the boundary of the sea just a thousand years ago.
In Medieval Park, not only ancient ruins and stones await you; life is bustling here as well, and in a very unusual way. The park constantly hosts fairs, with tents everywhere selling antique items, handmade souvenirs, and crafts in the national style.
Between the tents, knights in chain mail with swords stroll about leisurely, while behind the counters women in bunads, the traditional costumes of Norwegians, bustle around. No need to be alarmed and count how many beers you had with lunch - these are not hallucinations, but participants in a medieval fair or festival! Additional color is added to the park by stylized taverns where you can sample national cuisine.
