Fagerborg Church is of interest not only as an active place of worship, but also as a magnificent example of architecture. The church was built in 1903 based on the design of Hagbarth Martin Schytte-Berg, who won the competition, competing against 54 other architects.
The building's main style is Neo-Gothic with elements of Jugendstil or Art Nouveau, but the influence of the Neo-Romanesque style can also be seen here. This eclectic mix of architectural styles ultimately gave the city a beautiful church with a high bell tower, arched windows and doorways, spires, and weather vanes. The main material used for construction was granite of a beautiful gray-beige shade from the municipality of Skjeberg.
Fagerborg Church is not very large, with only 500 seats, but it is very cozy and beautiful. The interior decoration of the church is done in the romantic Art Nouveau style - from the preaching pulpit to the delightful stained-glass windows made by the royal glassmaker. Valuable materials such as white marble and Oregon pine were used in the decoration of the church hall.
Fagerborg Church has an organ, one of the largest in Oslo. The current modern 54-stop organ was donated to the church in 2007, and before that there was an old instrument from 1932, consisting of 2728 pipes. Not only churchgoers come here to listen to the beautiful sounds of the organ, but also lovers of organ music.
