Monbijou is located not far from the noisy Oranienburgerstrasse. In the past, the luxurious Monbijou Palace stood here (the name translates as “my jewel”), astounding everyone with its magnificent architecture. But during the war years it was destroyed so badly that it was decided not to restore it.
However, the park that has survived to this day is an oasis of natural comfort in the center of the noisy city. Monbijou opens onto the embankment of the Spree River. For visitors, deck chairs with a view of the river have been thoughtfully placed here; you can admire the scenery, feed the ducks, wave to the passengers of sightseeing boats sailing by, or simply stroll among the trees.
There is also a restaurant right on the embankment with good cuisine and an excellent view. In addition, in Monbijou Park you may come across a marble bust of the German writer and poet Adelbert von Chamisso. And as soon as you get tired of enjoying this corner of peace, you only need to take a few steps beyond the park gates to find yourself in the lively historic center of Berlin.
