Korjaamo Culture Factory is a unique place where the priceless product of creativity is made from the valuable raw materials of talent and ideas. This is a multidisciplinary place, where contemporary theater, visual and fine art, music, and history coexist under one roof.
More than 400 theater productions, concerts, performances, exhibitions, and shows take place here every year. In August, the Culture Factory hosts the International Theatre Festival Stage in its halls and even on its lawns, drawing companies and artists from all over Europe and the world.
Korjaamo is located in central Helsinki, in the building of a former tram depot. It was simply destined that a Tram Museum would open in such a place, and that is exactly what the building's owners did. Here you can learn the history of tram lines in Helsinki - from the very first cars, more like carriages with golden monograms and brass handrails, to the modern rolling stock.
Some cars, especially the antique ones, are displayed for viewing only from the outside. But there are also examples here that ran from 1941 to 1979 - you can step inside them, sit on the unusually narrow and hard seats, and even, taking the driver's seat, pull the old levers and handles. One of the museum halls is decorated with stands featuring photographs, documents, and the uniforms of conductors and drivers. And in another hall there is a cafe where you can have a hearty lunch while sitting next to a tram car.
