The largest collection of contemporary art objects in Northern Europe is housed in the private Forsblom Gallery. It is about 40 years old; it is the oldest and most authoritative cultural institution of this kind in Хельсинки. In 1977, the gallery was founded by Кай Форсблум, who still takes an active part in its work, although his son, Фрей, is now the director.
Over its long history, the gallery has changed location several times; since May 2011, it has been located in a new building in the very center of Хельсинки. The total area of the exhibition halls is about 700 sq. m, which is more than enough for a wide variety of exhibitions. The interior design was handled by the New York company Gluckman Mayner Architecs. The design turned out to be concise, but at the same time very stylish.
Over the course of a year, the gallery can host several dozen temporary exhibitions by different artists, not only Finnish but also foreign. Many international masters were presented to the Finnish public for the first time именно in Forsblom.
The gallery conducts active international work, taking part in cultural events in many European countries and in the USA.
