A trip to a flea market can be compared to sport or a lottery - there is excitement, but the goal is unknown. “Hietalahdentori” is located in Helsinki on the square of the same name, next to the famous covered market “Hietalahi hall”.
This place was used for informal trade from the end of the XIX century, and perhaps even earlier. Small shops and drinking establishments were mostly located here, where sailors would carouse. Gradually, the entire square transformed into a huge open-air marketplace.
Every year, from the arrival of May until the end of September, it is flooded with thousands of vendors offering countless goods of all kinds, just like at any other flea market in the world. You never know what you will buy today, but you are unlikely to leave empty-handed.
