This is one of the best-known venues in Germany for holding exhibitions, more than 170 of which have taken place here over the entire history of the gallery. In German, the museum is called Kinder-Malkurs in der Schirn, and for short it is simply the Schirn Gallery.
There is no permanent collection here, only changing exhibitions by both young emerging artists and renowned masters or artistic groups from different eras. "Kandinsky Retrospective," "Masterpieces of European Painting 1910-1960" - examples of the titles make it clear how large-scale the events held here are. The gallery's popularity and accessibility are also influenced by its location: it is situated in the very center of the city, not far from the historic Römer town hall.
The institution also organizes children's painting courses, whose students can be residents of Frankfurt aged 6 to 11. A great deal of attention is paid here to theory. Children not only draw themselves, but also study the history of the creation of pictorial masterpieces. Having understood the principles by which high-class works are born, they venture to create on their own as well. Children's works are also included in exhibitions organized by the Schirn Gallery.
