In 2013, a new city landmark appeared in Kazan, sparkling with a copper sheen and mirrored windows. The Wedding Palace, or the Family Center "Kazan," is located on the peninsula opposite the Kazan Kremlin.
The new registry office can be seen from afar; it attracts attention with its unusual shape and beautiful decor. The building is constructed in the shape of a huge bowl, or cauldron, rising on a white-stone pedestal with tall lancet windows. The bowl is encircled by several lines of patterns symbolic for the Tatars. The lower row of ornament consists of zilants, mythical snakes or dragons that have long become the symbol and coat of arms of Kazan. Above them are winged snow leopards, patrons of fertility and protectors of children. Besides the fact that the winged snow leopard is depicted on the coat of arms of Tatarstan, its symbolic meaning is perfectly suited to the Family Center. The upper belt of ornament, which serves as the parapet of the observation deck, is decorated with round stained-glass windows and decorative handles.
The project for the Wedding Palace was designed by the world-famous sculptor and artist Dashi Namdakov, who works in an ethnic style. The residents themselves chose the name for the new family center from 800 proposed options.
The Wedding Palace can host up to 100 wedding ceremonies a day. Several halls operate here, elegant and refined, decorated with marble and paintings on the ceilings and walls.
The observation deck on the roof of "Kazan" offers a magnificent panoramic view of the river, the historic architecture of Kazan, and modern neighborhoods.
