Back Bay in the southwest of Mumbai is a quiet harbor that winds and large waves rarely reach. The bay's coast is very popular with tourists and local residents, because here you can easily find many options for recreation and entertainment.
The bay's main "attraction" is considered to be the famous Chowpatty Beach. In August-September, the annual Ganesh Chaturthi festival is held here, dedicated to the elephant-headed deity Ganesha. The celebrations gather crowds of thousands of pilgrims and are distinguished by incredible splendor and colorfulness.
Marine Drive includes Chowpatty and stretches farther almost along the entire coast, to Malabar Hill, known for its exceptionally fashionable residences. The architecture of the promenade is mainly represented by the Art Deco style; many buildings date back to the 1920-1930s, and they were built by wealthy Parsis, a local ethnic group inhabiting this region of India.
From the sea in the evenings, a fantastic view opens up - the shining lights of the city, the luxurious Oberoi hotels, the bright lights on the promenade create the unique atmosphere of nighttime Mumbai. Numerous entertainment venues operating all night long add to the impression.
